The Martin Road Park Splash Pad is here! We’ve seen the feedback regarding the grand opening, so we want to take this opportunity to address some questions and concerns.

Do you have to pay for splash pad admission?

No! The Splash Pad is entirely free for residents.

What are the hours of operation?

The Splash Pad will open on Saturday, July 16 at 10:45 a.m. Regular operating hours are daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Where is the splash pad located?

The splash pad is at Martin Road Park, located at 1615 E. Lewiston Ave, Ferndale, MI 48220.

How many people are allowed at the splash pad?

There is a maximum capacity of 280 people.

What are the rules?

The rules will be posted on the sign at the park, but you can view them below as well.

Is there parking available on site?

Yes, free parking is available at Martin Road Park at the lot outside of the curling club, the lot on Orchard Ave, the lot on Martin Rd, and additional street parking is available if necessary. Parking will be monitored by the City to assess usage and availability.

Is the park monitored for safety concerns?

The City will be monitoring usage on a regular basis, but there is an emergency phone available at the splash pad with appropriate phone numbers listed for emergencies, weather-related concerns, structural/maintenance concerns, or other non-emergency matters. A first aid kit is also on the premises if needed.

How much water does the splash pad use?

This splash pad operates via a recirculating system—similar to a pool—where the water is filtered and treated with chlorine and recirculated, as opposed to a second option where fresh water would be directly drained into the water main/sewer after use. It's estimated there could be 40-50,000 gallons per year using the recirculating system of the splash pad, as opposed to 300,000-500,000 gallons using a freshwater system, which saves a tremendous amount of water and around $80,000 in cost savings.

Is the splash pad related to the water rate increase?

No! The water/sewer rate increase is not due to the building/operating the splash pad. Unfortunately, the two items were announced back-to-back, and we understand that may have been confusing. The splash pad is a City facility and operates as such. The water/sewer rate increase is due to significant infrastructure improvements, in the form of mass water meter replacement, lead line replacement, water/sewer main maintenance/replacement.
