Community Engagement Opportunities

In our ongoing commitment to fostering a strong relationship between our community and its police department, the department established the Community Engagement Officer (CEO) position in July 2016. This role was initially filled by Sergeant Baron Brown, followed by Officer Jillian Mahlmeister, both of whom played a pivotal role in building a thriving relationship with our community. As the demand for social media presence and media interaction increased, we recognized the need for a civilian specialized in communications. In March 2024, we introduced the Police Communications Liaison (PCL) position, a role that serves as the Community Engagement Officer, Public Information Officer, and Communications Liaison, all crucial in our efforts to engage with our community.

We are proud to introduce Evan Ahlin as our first Police Communications Liaison. Evan hails from New Hampshire and started his career with the United States Marine Corps. Evan is a 17-year combat veteran with 5 deployments under his belt. His final Marine Corps assignment was as a public affairs unit deputy director. Evan earned a communications degree with a public relations certificate from the University of Michigan Dearborn.

Evan is dedicated to advancing the department's vision of an innovative, community-centric policing approach by facilitating community meetings, department presentations, and a Citizen’s Police Academy. See the links below to get engaged!
