Ferndale Parks and Recreation Senior Services seek to provide recreational, social, and physical activities for our mature residents.
Ferndale Senior Group
The Ferndale Senior Group (FSG) provides recreational opportunities for people ages 55 and above. The FSG meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 11:00 a.m at the Hazel Park Recreation Center: 620 W Woodward Heights Blvd, Hazel Park, MI 48030. This is a great opportunity to see friends and neighbors, participate in activities, and more. Membership is $15 for residents and non-residents, which includes a bi-monthly newsletter.
A discounted annual parking pass of $10 (available to Ferndale residents only) can be obtained at the Park Ferndale Office, located at The dot, 221 W. Troy St., Ferndale, MI 48220, or City Hall, located at 300 E. Nine Mile Road, Ferndale MI 48220. Please note: The ParkFerndale Office does not accept cash. City Hall accepts all payment types. This parking pass is for offstreet surface lots and does not include The dot parking garage. Members will need to create a profile to pay for membership.

Home Chore Grant | Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA)
The City of Ferndale and the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA) are pleased to announce a Home Chore Grant for Ferndale residents. Qualified low-income residents and seniors can apply for home repairs and yard cleanup for projects up to $5,000. The prioritized areas are porch repairs, roof repairs, plumbing, furnaces, and yard cleanup.
Qualifications:
Please keep in mind there are qualifications needed for the program:

The home must usually be a single-family, owner-occupied dwelling located in the City of Ferndale.

The home must be a low-income household under current HUD guidelines.

The homeowner must be aged 62 or older or qualify as an adult with severe disabilities.

The repair must be necessary to maintain the health, safety, and welfare of occupants.

The household may only receive one grant. A maximum of $5,000 will be awarded per household.
Preference will be given based on emergency repairs, income, and first-time applicants.

Qualified residents can visit bit.ly/HomeChoreGrantProgram to access the application or pick up one in person at Ferndale City Hall or the Parks and Recreation Office in Incubizo. The deadline to apply for priority consideration is Monday, April 28, 2025.

Community Development Block Grant | Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA)
Eligible Ferndale residents can sign up for annual snow removal services and/or lawn cutting and leaf-raking. This service is available to income-qualifying seniors ages 62 years old or older, and disabled adults who are 18 and older. This service is provided as one of the City’s Community Development Block Grant projects.

Services are limited and clients are served on a first-come-first-serve basis. If any spots are available, residents are contacted and informed of the availability, which may include being placed on the waitlist. Residents who participated in the program the previous year will be contacted before the beginning of each season by the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA). OLHSA maintains the waitlist on behalf of the City, and residents can contact OLHSA to enquire about participation at 248-935-6898.

Nutrition Program
The Meals on Wheels service is for seniors 60 and older who are interested in receiving prepared hot meals. If you are interested in having a meal delivered to your home, please call Oakland Meals on Wheels at 248-223-9160.
